Cruisin

County ID A5164957

Deadline: Wednesday, September 2.

Cruisin has two sides right now. In the yard with a patient handler, he's soft and sweet, leaning in for affection and taking treats gently. In the kennel, he's a different dog—frozen by fear, defensive, unable to let anyone close enough to leash him safely. Four months in this building and the pressure is breaking him down.

What the shelter has seen

  • In the yard, walked soft on leash and checked in with handlers, accepted gentle petting on his head and leaned in when sitting at their feet
  • Shuts down hard when approached in the kennel—won't come forward, won't take treats from a hand, tucks and curls his lip when a leash appears
  • Flips his head back, pins his ears, and side-eyes when touched on his lower body or rear end

What Cruisin needs

This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Cruisin needs an experienced handler who understands fear-based behavior and can give him the time and space to decompress outside of shelter conditions. He is New Hope Only, which means he must be pulled by a partner rescue with the resources to support him. Deadline is September 2nd.

Everything here comes from Cruisin’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
