Honey Bun

County ID A5169032

Deadline: Tuesday, September 8.

Honey Bun is a three-year-old pit mix who spent her first week at the shelter so shut down she wouldn't eat or walk, then woke up hilarious—bouncy and goofy and eager to be near people. She's been there six weeks now and has a respiratory infection that isn't clearing, which puts her at medical deadline in eleven days.

What the shelter has seen

  • Approached a stranger in a neighborhood three weeks ago looking for attention, and has stayed soft and social with handlers ever since
  • After a week of fear shutdown—wouldn't eat, wouldn't move—she came back to herself: play bows, zoomies, then flops on your feet for belly rubs, then does it all over again
  • Takes treats gently, sits on cue, ignores other dogs when walking past kennels, pulls moderately on leash

What Honey Bun needs

A foster home with no other pets for at least two weeks while she settles, then slow supervised introductions if there are resident dogs. She'll need leash work and a family introduction plan, and a foster who can give her the quiet she needs to finish healing. Medical priority—she leaves with treatment in progress.

Everything here comes from Honey Bun’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
