Donut
County ID A5169326
Deadline: Wednesday, September 16.
Donut has been at West for six weeks with a medical priority deadline in seven days. He is a 64-pound six-year-old who knows some commands and craves human contact, but he is reactive to other dogs and that means he needs an experienced handler who understands what management looks like.

What the shelter has seen
- Found as a stray after someone coaxed him in from the road with food, and his finder said he was friendly with children and let them pet him
- Knows sit and shake, takes treats gently, solicits attention and leans in for petting
- Barks at other dogs through fencing but redirects easily when called, comes running back for affection
- Pulls on leash and showed dog reactivity when entering the shelter
- Not interested in toys, medium energy, loose and happy in the yard
What Donut needs
A home with no other dogs and no cats. Someone who has managed reactivity before and will not be surprised when a dog barks at another dog on a walk. Proper introductions and decompression time after six weeks in a shelter kennel.
Everything here comes from Donut’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
