Amarillo is a big shepherd caught between two versions of himself. When the pressure drops and someone moves slowly, he softens—takes treats, allows leashing, even opts to go back inside his kennel on his own. But the kennel environment is eroding him fast, and his frustration now floods over into biting at the leash, thrashing, and redirecting onto handlers when he can't cope. He has five days left and the shelter has named him New Hope Only because he is becoming unsafe to move.

What the shelter has seen
- 90-pound shepherd who came in with two other dogs in early August
- Can be leashed outside his kennel with patience and food, then pulls hard past the behavior taxi
- Struggles with leash handling—bites and thrashes at the leash, alligator rolls, redirects onto handler's clothing when frustrated
- On good days walked softly in the yard, independently but affiliatively, and went back into his kennel with gentle steering
What Amarillo needs
This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Amarillo needs an experienced foster or adopter who understands fearful, frustrated shepherds and can give him the structure, space, and time to decompress outside of concrete and noise. Must be pulled by a qualified New Hope Partner rescue no later than close of business September 1st.
