Odyssey

County ID A5170107

Deadline: Wednesday, September 2.

Odyssey is a three-year-old husky mix who knows basic commands and wants human attention, but his body is writing checks his impulse control can't cash. He jumps, he bumps, he moves through space like he doesn't know where he ends and you begin. When someone tried to physically move him past a barrier he didn't want to cross, he bit hard enough to break skin.

What the shelter has seen

  • Knew sit and shake, waited patiently for treats, solicited attention from handlers in the yard.
  • Walked on leash with mild pull, stopped to sniff, urinated and defecated normally.
  • Jumps up on people, bumps into handlers with force, struggles with body awareness.
  • Wary of leash initially, required adjustment to get comfortable with handling.
  • Bit someone who was trying to physically pull him through a barrier, puncture wounds.

What Odyssey needs

This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Odyssey needs an experienced handler who understands fearful, spatially unaware dogs and can teach him boundaries without force. Must be pulled by a New Hope Partner rescue by close of business September 2.

Everything here comes from Odyssey’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
