Amadeus

County ID A5170132

Deadline: Monday, August 31.

Amadeus is a young Malinois-type dog with a ton of energy and very little impulse control. He knows some commands and wants to engage, but he cycles between frantic arousal and brief pockets of calm, and right now he has no way to manage himself in between. He's been too much dog for the shelter to handle safely.

What the shelter has seen

  • Knows sit and down, will demonstrate both on cue and lean into touch once he settles
  • Jumps repeatedly when excited—at doors, at people, at the leash—then gradually calms enough to redirect with treats
  • Chases thrown toys for a few tosses, then loses interest and wanders off to sniff
  • Mouths gently at hands when petted, stopped after a few minutes and relaxed next to handler on the bench
  • Gets overaroused quickly in transitions—kennel to yard, yard to kennel—demand barks and jumps at the leash

What Amadeus needs

This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Amadeus needs an experienced handler who understands high-drive working breeds, can manage arousal and mouthing, and has the time and skill to teach him how to exist in the world without spinning out. He is New Hope Only and must be pulled by a partner rescue with behavior support resources by end of day August 31st.

Everything here comes from Amadeus’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
