Cruz is a young lab mix shutting down hard under the weight of shelter fear. He's been there three weeks and the stress is winning. Handlers see a dog who allows gentle touch and ate peanut butter from enrichment toys when the pressure came off, but he's whining, shivering, and freezing in place more often than not.

What the shelter has seen
- Found with one other dog, now on his own in a shelter kennel where he spends most of his time curled on his bed or frozen in the back corner
- Lets handlers pick him up and pet him, but won't walk on leash and retreats when they approach with it
- Engaged with a snuffle mat and lick mat for five continuous minutes when given space and time, but won't take treats from a hand
What Cruz needs
Cruz needs a quiet foster home with someone experienced in fearful dogs who understands that progress is measured in weeks, not days, and won't push him past his threshold. This is not a beginner's dog. He is New Hope Only and must be pulled by a registered rescue partner through the portal by end of day September 13th.
