Maddie is a 7-pound Shih Tzu mix who survived weeks on her own before landing here, and now the shelter itself is breaking her. She shakes in the back of her kennel, won't eat, won't move toward a hand. This is what terror looks like when it has nowhere to go.

What the shelter has seen
- Found with another dog at Gilbert Regional Park after more than a week loose, eventually approached a stranger who offered food
- In a home for a week, barked at strangers, tried to slip out open doors, stayed skittish around people she didn't know
- In the shelter, retreats to corners, trembles, won't take treats, won't come forward—four weeks in and the fear is only deepening
What Maddie needs
Maddie needs a quiet, patient, experienced home with someone who has rehabilitated a shut-down dog before and knows that progress is measured in weeks, not days. This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. She must be pulled by a New Hope Partner rescue no later than September 14.
