Sinclair

County ID A5170443

Deadline: Wednesday, September 2.

Sinclair is a two-year-old cattle dog who shuts down hard in confinement but softens completely in open space, where she solicits touch and stays close. She has a documented history of severe attacks on other dogs and barrier-charging cats, both unpredictable and dangerous. Under that fear and those triggers is a dog who melts for human contact, but she needs someone who understands what they're looking at.

What the shelter has seen

  • Found wandering at a gas station, rolled over for the finder and rode quietly in the car
  • In the shelter yard turned soft and wiggly, leaned into petting, flopped on her back for belly rubs, followed the handler around asking for attention
  • Terrified in the kennel—paces, hides, pancakes flat at the threshold—but once outside becomes submissive and affectionate
  • History of sudden, serious dog aggression in a previous environment: bit two dogs without warning, one requiring separation by blanket, the other by jumping a gate to reach
  • Lunged and pushed through barriers to get to cats

What Sinclair needs

Only home with no other animals. This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise—she requires an experienced handler who can manage serious dog aggression and predatory behavior toward cats. New Hope Only: Sinclair must be pulled by a qualified partner rescue by close of business September 2nd.

Everything here comes from Sinclair’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
