Chiki Ba Ba is a 27-pound Chihuahua mix who shuts down hard when she feels cornered. The finder said she was calm and affectionate at home, but the shelter kennel has her pressed to the back wall, shaking and growling when anyone approaches. She growled once at a two-year-old who looked under a bed directly at her. That is the shape of her fear.

What the shelter has seen
- Found as a stray, was slipping through gaps in a 4-foot fence at the finder's home where she'd been for two days
- Lived calmly indoors with children ages 2 through 17, free-roaming, knew 'come' and went into a kennel on cue, friendly with small dogs
- Freezes when startled or when cornered in her kennel, growls and watches handlers with fixed stare and whale eye, flinches at touch, will alarm bark if pressed
- Once outside and given space, walks on leash without pulling, air-scents and moves slowly through the yard, takes treats when not feeling trapped
What Chiki Ba Ba needs
This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. She needs someone who understands a dog who defends herself when trapped, who will not crowd her, and who has no young children. Chiki Ba Ba is New Hope Only and must be pulled by a qualified partner rescue by close of business September 10th.
