Bruce is a 20-pound dog who has spent his whole short life running scared. Found as a stray family group, he showed handlers exactly what two years of fear looks like: a dog so desperate to escape he'll dig, jump, and thrash rather than let a human lead him anywhere. He's not aggressive. He's terrified.

What the shelter has seen
- Found under a mobile home with another adult dog and three puppies, so skittish they had to be trapped
- In the yard, paced the fence line with tucked tail and shaking legs, tried to dig out, wouldn't approach handlers for treats
- Thrashed and bit at the leash when handlers tried to guide him back inside, flinched when touched, settled only once back in his kennel
What Bruce needs
This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Bruce needs an experienced handler who understands fear-based behavior, has the patience for a long decompression period, and won't take his panic personally. Because he's New Hope Only, he must be pulled by a partner rescue by close of business September 10th.
