Rue came in as part of a small stray family and the upheaval has shut her down hard. She tolerates careful handling but any sudden movement sends her into flight mode, and when she can't flee she braces in place or tries to twist free. Under all that survival reflex is a young dog who has never known a routine or a person she could trust.

What the shelter has seen
- Found with another adult dog and three puppies under a mobile home; trapped after showing initial fear
- Has been in the shelter 14 days; when handlers open her kennel she presses against the wall, turns her head away, trembles
- In the yard she stays low and hunched, surveys carefully, allows gentle petting when handlers kneel still beside her
- When startled or moved too quickly she freezes completely or darts away; will mouth at the leash when cornered
- Lived outdoors before intake, energy and personality unknown beneath the fear
What Rue needs
This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Rue needs an experienced foster who understands shutdown fear, moves slowly, and won't take her darting or freezing personally. No young children. She must be pulled by a registered New Hope Partner no later than 5:30 a.m. on September 14th.
