Rose is a two-year-old shepherd mix whose body tells two stories at once—soft and wagging one moment, tense and guarding space the next. She came in anxious and high-energy, vocal and pacing when confined, and that quick-trigger tension hasn't settled in the shelter. She's not aggressive so much as deeply uncertain about what comes next.

What the shelter has seen
- Found as a stray near Lake Pleasant, came right up to the finder and allowed petting
- Guarded food she'd taken—air snapped when someone reached for it, then disengaged
- In the yard with staff, explored and allowed petting, but gave quick air snaps near handler's hands twice when approached during cleanups or while standing close
- Reacts to other dogs with raised hackles, growling, and forward body posture when passing kennels
- Walked well on leash though pulled moderately and stayed low to the ground at intake
What Rose needs
This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Rose needs an experienced handler who can read a dog's rising stress and give her the structure and space to decompress without pushing her past threshold. She is New Hope Only and must be pulled by a partner rescue with a committed foster by September 13th.
