Eugene
County ID A5170843
Deadline: Sunday, September 13.
Eugene is a two-year-old shepherd mix who arrived scared and shut down. In the shelter yard, with quiet handlers and treats, he began to open up—taking food gently, leaning into touch, checking back in. He's wary of the world right now, but there's somebody in there.

What the shelter has seen
- Walked with handlers on leash, took treats gently by hand, allowed light petting after settling in the yard
- Wandered independently, sniffed around, came back to handlers on his own
- Urinated and defecated in yard—may have had housetraining before
- Timid and unsure in the shelter but softened when given time and patience
- Let handlers leash him and walk him back to kennel without resistance
What Eugene needs
Eugene was picked up after a serious at-large incident involving multiple dogs and reported aggression. This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. He needs an experienced handler who understands fear and management, a home without other dogs, and space to decompress without pressure. New Hope Only—he must be pulled by a qualified partner rescue with post-placement support by end of day September 13.
Everything here comes from Eugene’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
