Khloe

County ID A5170854

Deadline: Thursday, September 10.

Khloe is a two-year-old pit mix carrying fear she can't quite shake. She wants to trust—she comes forward, she takes treats, she follows where you ask her to go—but touch makes her whole body tense, and she shuts down under pressure she can't name. She is trying hard in a place that is too much for her.

What the shelter has seen

  • Came forward for treats at intake, took them gently, allowed leash and light handling for vaccines though nervous
  • In the yard she explores nose to ground, but when touched her skin crawls, she pulls her head back, side-eyes, and stops eating
  • Becomes stiff and flagged when she sees other dogs, watches them briefly then goes back to what she was doing
  • Lies down in front of her handler panting and scanning, tolerates petting on her head but her whole body shows she'd rather not
  • Follows leash pressure and verbal coaxing, walks stop-and-go, enters and exits her kennel without trouble

What Khloe needs

Khloe needs an experienced handler who understands fear and will not push her, will not expect affection she cannot give, and will let her learn safety at her own pace. This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. She is New Hope Only and must be pulled by a rescue partner no later than close of business September 10th.

Everything here comes from Khloe’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
