Da Vinci is a four-year-old corgi mix who is overwhelmed and afraid. He freezes when stressed, which the shelter calls pancaking, and it takes him time to trust that a person won't hurt him. When he does, he leans in close. His fear makes him unsafe to handle without skill.

What the shelter has seen
- Found as a stray, had been in the finder's care one day before intake
- Shuts down hard in the shelter—pancaked in the yard, wouldn't take treats, panting and scanning, eventually allowed slow petting and leaned into handler's leg
- Air snapped when grabbed to be picked up by the finder
- In prior home: medium energy, played and slept, ran out the gate if not stopped, no guarding, did not walk on leash
What Da Vinci needs
This is not a beginner's dog and we will not pretend otherwise. Da Vinci needs a foster with experience reading fear in dogs, who will not rush him, and who understands that a scared dog can bite. He is New Hope Only, which means a registered rescue partner must pull him by end of day September 13th.
