Trumpet
County ID A5171021
Deadline: Wednesday, September 16.
Trumpet is a five-year-old pit bull who arrived terrified and is still terrified. He wants human contact—will come to you, rest his head on you, follow you—but the shelter is too much. He shuts down, he drools, he scratches at doors. What he does when he feels safe, we don't know yet.

What the shelter has seen
- Comes forward slowly when called, softens and wags, then retreats when other dogs bark
- In the yard, scratches constantly at the gate wanting out, redirects briefly to the handler, allows slow petting but starts drooling
- Follows handler closely, rests his head in their lap with a soft gaze, leans into their legs when startled by noise
What Trumpet needs
Trumpet needs a quiet foster home with an experienced handler who understands fear and won't rush him, and who can work with a rescue on whatever comes next. This is not a beginner's dog. He is New Hope Only and must be pulled by a partnered rescue before close of business September 16.
Everything here comes from Trumpet’s Maricopa County Animal Care and Control record. We leave out the parts that belong between the shelter, the rescue and the vet, and we do not soften what a dog needs. If something changes at the shelter, this page changes with it.
